IEL Wednesday Commons League

A Beginner Friendly Hearthstone League

Live Bracket

Play on your own schedule, with a fallback to Wednesday 9-11pm ET.

Hang out in our Discord group while you play.

Format

  • Regulation Conquest format.
  • Register with your Battle.net ID.
  • Winner should take screenshots of their victories to validate in the case of a dispute.

Decks

  • Commons: Card pool limited to Basic and Common cards only.
  • Standard: May only use cards released in the current and previous calendar year, along with a core foundation of the Basic and Classic card sets.
  • Deck list to be submitted to decklist@esportsleaders.com (screenshots fine) before first match after each deck change. Decks may be changed between, but not during matches.

Schedule & Forfeits

  • Each new round runs 11pm Wednesday to 11pm the following Wednesday.
  • Play your games at any time during the week.
  • If you have not completed your match before 9pm on the ending Wednesday and you are not online at 9pm to play the match, you will forfeit the match.
  • Double forfeits (neither player online) in elimination stage will result in elimination for both players.

Halo can make you a Better Teammate at Work

Or: A Maturity Model for Halo Teams

I’ve played Halo for a long time: about 15 years, through various versions. For nearly as long, I’ve studied the parallels between teamwork in video games, and teamwork at work.

One of my favorite things about Halo is how a team of less skilled players (e.g. me) with better teamwork can overcome an uncoordinated group of highly skilled players. Over the years, I’ve developed a loose framework to describe that level of coordination, and recognize where to improve it. Several of the tactics we use in-game are also applicable to teams at work.

All other things being equal, it’s still better to work with a team of superstars, but many an all-star team has been hamstrung by poor teamwork. Whether your team is great depends less on the solo skills and more on how you work together.

You can compete even if you have literally never held a controller. We’ll be playing with beginner friendly rules, so everyone can experience the glory of competing as part of a team.

Invite your friends & bring a 4-person team, or team up with other free agents at the event.

  • Tournament registration is available now. You can also register at check-in, but pre-registration is faster.
  • Anyone who has been invited can invite additional players. Don’t know anyone going? Contact us with inquiries.
  • See official rules for format and schedule.
  • Brackets will be posted on Challonge. Brackets are not final until tournaments begin.
